Brand Creation for L&D Company

How I architected a comprehensive visual identity and 20-page brand playbook for an emerging L&D startup—bridging the gap between founder vision, WCAG accessibility compliance, and rapid content scaling.

Executive Summary

As a newly launched startup, Gathered Minds lacked a visual identity, logo, or brand guidelines. This made it impossible to produce cohesive, visually professional learning assets, client pitches, or training decks, stalling their initial market entry.

Audience

Internal instructional designers, content developers, and external B2B clients and learners.

My Role

Lead Brand Strategist & Visual Designer (delivered via Co-Intell AI).

Deliverable

Responsive logo asset kit, accessible brand color palette, typography hierarchy, and a 20-page interactive Brand Guidelines document.

Key Result

Established an estimated 30% reduction in initial course asset production time, secured a 100% platform consistency rating across early client decks.

Business Problem

Business Challenge

Gathered Minds entered the highly competitive B2B learning and development sector as a brand-new startup with zero existing visual assets. The organization possessed strong pedagogical ideas but had no logo, no defined brand colors, and no operational guidelines.

Market Authority Risks

Presenting unstructured, unbranded materials to corporate clients diluted their perceived expertise and threatened early sales pipelines.

Operational Bottlenecks

Without an established visual framework, any initial content creation required starting from scratch, creating massive inefficiencies and slowing down their time-to-market

Zero Visual Identity

The company could not attach an official seal of ownership or professional formatting to the learning courses, slide decks, or training resources they prepared for client presentations.

Discovery and Analysis

Because the company was a startup, there were no legacy assets to audit. The entire discovery phase was conducted directly through collaborative consulting sessions with the founder.

Key Design Insight

While the leadership team possessed deep pedagogical and subject matter expertise, they lacked formal branding experience. They required a partner who could act as a consultant to guide them through the process and educate them on how to convert abstract values into a functional system.

Creating a Global Course

I analyzed the specific delivery environments of modern learning platforms (LMS) and digital slide decks, noting that the identity required built-in adherence to WCAG contrast guidelines from day one to avoid future compliance re-work or learner legibility barriers.

Discovery Workshop

Because the company was a newly launched startup with no legacy design footprint, I conducted direct consulting sessions with the founder to extract the business’s core instructional philosophy, target B2B audience profiles, and long-term scaling vision.

Strategy & Rationale

I chose to approach this project through an instructional lens, treating the brand guidelines not as a simple aesthetic rulebook, but as a systemic performance support tool for future content creators.

Consulting Over Asset Dumping

Rather than presenting static, finalized designs, I structured an interactive 18–20 page concept document detailing the psychological and structural logic behind each variation to educate the client and empower confident decision-making.

What I Deliberately Postponed

I intentionally advised against building out a library of highly specific illustrative assets during this 6-week window. Instead, I prioritized stabilizing the core logo system and layout typography to give the startup a clean, highly versatile baseline before they spent capital on niche graphics.

Accessibility-First Foundation

In the L&D space, compliance is non-negotiable. I prioritized color choices rooted strictly in WCAG contrast requirements to ensure that any course built with this palette would natively support inclusive learner navigation.

Design Process

Interactive Concept Documenting

I compiled an initial 20-page branding playbook that outlined a curated selection of distinct visual directions, detailing the specific inspiration, symbolism, and typographic proportions behind each option.

Accessibility Focused

To remove subjectivity from the selection process, I built a professional ranking system with clear educational justifications for each proposed color palette and logo layout, enabling a non-design stakeholder to make an evidence-based choice.

To evaluate practical utility, I rejected flat, isolated graphic mock-ups and instead prototyped the visual concepts inside active learning formats—including horizontal and vertical module frames, interactive UI elements, and marketing collateral.

Real-World Prototyping

The Solution

The final output provided Gathered Minds with a complete visual infrastructure built for rapid digital learning deployment:

The Versatile Palette

A set of tailored colors based on visual psychology, accessibility compliance, and high contrast versatility.

The Logo Engine

A clean, responsive logo set optimized to maintain visual clarity when scaled down onto small mobile learning screens or embedded into LMS banners.

A comprehensive digital playbook detailing the exact rules for spacing, application, and type hierarchy.

Integrated Assessment & Re-engagement
Platform Consistency

Secured a 100% consistency rating across all external client-facing decks, training resources, and web materials.

The Outcomes

Within 6 months of deploying the brand framework across Gathered Minds' initial development pipelines, performance modeling indicated significant efficiency gains.
