Enablement Ecosystem via SOPs

How I transformed fragmented, project-by-project enablement production into a standardized operating system—reducing typical production timelines from 1–2 months to 1–2 weeks and cutting large programme rollout times by more than 50%.

Executive Summary

As the team's first ID, I built a standardized Enablement Operations ecosystem to replace inconsistent, undocumented processes. By introducing reusable workflows, SOPs, templates, SLAs, and governance standards, I transformed ad hoc enablement work into a scalable, repeatable operating model.

Audience

Sales representatives and employees across Europe and North America (~250+ reps).

My Role

Instructional Designer (Revenue Enablement)

Deliverable

Enablement Operations ecosystem comprising 15 SOPs/frameworks, standardized intake and review processes, platform governance, reusable templates, production workflows, and AI-enabled production processes.

Key Result

Typical production timelines reduced from 1–2 months to 1–2 weeks, large programme rollouts reduced by 50%+, with the new operating model supporting 6 large-scale projects across 12.

Business Problem

Business Challenge

Revenue Enablement was supporting a growing portfolio of onboarding programmes, enablement initiatives, SKO, playbooks, battlecards, toolkits, and product enablement—but there was no unified production system behind the work. Processes and expectations varied between projects, creating unnecessary friction for SMEs and stakeholders and making delivery heavily dependent on individual knowledge.

The operational impact was significant:

Workflow Inconsistency

Similar enablement activities could follow different workflows depending on the project, stakeholder, or asset type, creating inconsistency and unnecessary reinvention.

Knowledge Dependency

Critical process knowledge lived within individuals rather than documented systems, making the function harder to scale as enablement demand increased.

Unclear Expectations

SMEs and stakeholders lacked consistent expectations around required inputs, ownership, review cycles, SLAs, and next steps.

The business didn't simply need content produced faster. It needed an operating system that could make enablement production faster, more consistent, and scalable.

Discovery and Analysis

I approached the challenge as an operations and systems problem, rather than simply a content-production problem. I mapped the existing enablement lifecycle from initial request through publishing and governance, identifying recurring points of friction, ambiguity, and manual effort.

The Key Findings were:

Process Friction

Requests, SME inputs, reviews, approvals, and publishing lacked consistent expectations, creating unnecessary back-and-forth and rework.

Content Standards

Content organization, tagging, naming, storage, and publishing standards varied across platforms and projects.

Inconsistent Practices

Production practices varied across programmes and asset types, with too much operational knowledge held informally by individuals.

The core constraint wasn't a lack of capability. It was the absence of a standardized enablement operating model.

Strategy & Rationale

I designed the ecosystem around four principles:

1. Standardize Repeatable Work

Recurring enablement activities should follow documented workflows rather than being reinvented for every project.

3. Build Reusable Infrastructure

Templates, SOPs, governance standards, and platform conventions created reusable foundations for future projects.

4. Optimize for Business Speed

Every process improvement was evaluated against a simple objective:

Reduce ambiguity → reduce rework → reduce manual effort → reduce production time

2. Create Clarity at Every Handoff

Intake processes, ownership, SLAs, review expectations, and decision points were standardized to reduce ambiguity between Enablement and SMEs.

Design Process

Mapping the Enablement Lifecycle

I established a standardized production framework covering:

Request → Intake → SME Engagement → Analysis → Design → Production → Review → Approval → Publishing → Governance

For each stage, I defined the appropriate owner, inputs, process, decision points, SLA, and quality checks.

Building the SOP Architecture

Rather than creating one large operational document, I developed a tiered system of 15 SOPs and frameworks.

Programme / Macro Workflows: Sales Onboarding, Enablement Programme Production, SKO, Playbooks, Battlecards, Toolkits, End-to-End Onboarding Deployment, SME Content Intake & SLA Management

Operational / Micro Standards: Intake Forms, Docebo LMS Tagging Conventions, Seismic Asset Governance, Brand Styling Guidelines, Review & Approval Processes, Publishing Standards, Quality-Control Processes

I established consistent standards for how enablement assets were organized, named, tagged, stored, published, and maintained across platforms including Docebo and Seismic.

The system was designed to evolve rather than become static documentation. I used a continuous improvement loop:

Build → Use → Identify Friction → Standardize → Optimize → Reuse

I also incorporated AI-enabled workflows into appropriate production stages to reduce repetitive work and accelerate delivery while retaining human review and quality control.

Governance & Iterative Optimisation

The Solution

The finalized solution was a scalable Enablement Operations ecosystem that standardized how Revenue Enablement work was requested, produced, reviewed, deployed, and governed.

Content & Platform Governance

Standardized how assets were named, organized, tagged, stored, published, and maintained across the enablement technology stack.

Enablement Production Framework

A repeatable end-to-end workflow for recurring programmes and content types, reducing the need to establish processes from scratch.

Standardized how assets were named, organized, tagged, stored, published, and maintained across the enablement technology stack.

Reusable Templates & SOPs
AI-Enabled Production

AI was incorporated into appropriate production workflows to accelerate repetitive tasks while maintaining human oversight and quality control.

The Outcomes

The new operating model improved production speed, consistency, and scalability across Revenue Enablement.
